SING FOR SHELTER

Sing for Shelter is an ambitious project taking place throughout 2019, bringing together choirs and singers across the UK with one common goal: to help combat the homelessness crisis we face.

SMVC will be learning A Place To Call Home as part of our repertoire and will, eventually, post  a video of the recording on the Sing For Shelter Facebook and Just Giving Page, helping to raise funds for SHELTER.

The piece is composed by Alex Woolf

You can download the backing track for the piece below and more information is available from http://alex-woolf.com/singforshelter

MD Geoff Porter and Assistant MD Huw Thomas discuss the digital recording.

Solent Male Voice Choir learns to click

In nearly 60 years singing Solent Male Voice Choir has regularly clicked its musical fingers, but the most significant click in recent years has involved the computer.

Even diehards in the choir relish the help at their fingertips; singers can rehearse at home using internet resources and groups can share information and expertise by clicking onto platforms like Facebook.

Embracing technology at Solent MVC are Musical Director Geoff Porter and website designer David McVittie, recognising its potential to widen horizons and improve performance.

Its very much behind the choir’s “Sing For Shelter”fund-raising project. Geoff explains “We are thrilled to be asked to take part in the multi-choir recording in September of composer Alex Woolf’s piece A Place To Call Home to raise funds for Shelter.Last year he composed an NHS Symphony for hospital choirs.

“David McVittie made MP3 and CD tracks of the two vocal parts to help with learning and we shall film ourselves singing it and upload this to Facebook with a link to the project’s Justgiving Page.

Solent MVC will give the song its debut during its Spring Concert at St. Peter’s Church,Bishop’s Waltham on March 23. Sharing the bill will be the 12-strong Bishop’s Bells team of bellringers and they will be playing a Bach pastorale and Ashokan Farewell among other pieces
